BACKGROUND
This
organization was created in Toronto on March 3/2006 by some dedicated
Somali-Canadians whose objective was to improve the living conditions of
Somali children affected by the civil war. Even though the organization
shares the same values and goals of other international child soldier
organizations, it's primary aim is to assist these children long before
they are coerced to take up arms. In other words, the Organization is
modeled on a preventative and proactive approach in that it designs
programs for impressionable and often orphaned children in order to
discourage them from joining armed militias.
The project " Gun's
for dollars" introduced by the United Nations, couldn't work because of the
high investment it required, since there is an ocean of weapons in Somalia.
Prehaps taking an educational approach and creating jobs would be a logical
alternative.
